The 5th edition of Deaf Women Association of Nigeria, Abuja chapter Health Awareness week and International Day for Persons with disabilities has come and gone. We can only but thank God for the great success achieved so far.
This year, we received a lot of dignitaries and stakeholders from Embassies, MDAs, FCTA, CSOs, Health and media who for the first time, key into our work the need to partner and collaborate towards ensuring Inclusiveness and equality for Deaf Women to access their sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR) and other related matters in order to achieve a desirable result.

This year, our Inclusive Champion Awards went to the followings;
1. Best Humanitarian Award of the Year – Hajia Maryam Aminu Tambuwa, The wife of Sokoto State Governor and founder, Maryam Muritala Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Legacy Initiative (MMAWT)
2. Best Inclusive Champion Award of the Year – Bar. Hauwa Shekarau, Country Director, Ipas
3. Best Supportive Personality Award of the Year – Mrs. Patience Emmanuel Chukwu (Interpreter), Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development
4. Best Company Support of the Year – Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company, Ltd

Finally, Our special thanks to our Partners & Donors notably among them were U.S. Embassy Nigeria, Abuja, Australia Embassy, Abuja, Maryam Muritala Waziri Aminu Tambuwal Legacy Initiative (MMAWT), Ipas Nigeria, CBM International ,Nigeria, Deaf Women Association of Nigeria (DWAN), Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company, Ltd, National Press Centre Radio House, Creative Visions Development Foundation – CVDEF. To my friend, Sister and Comrade from another Africa nation, Mrs. Binta B Werkmann, the General Secretary of Gambia Deaf Women Society, what a great privilege to have you in our midst and we thank you so much for this historical visit and hopefully we will extend same to you soon. Very soon, we are going to work out a space for other Deaf Women in Africa countries to step in.
