DWAI Inaugurated by Hon. Minister of State, FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu as members of the FCT Emergency Maternal, New born, Child & Adolescent Health Plus Nutrition activities in FCT

Culled from the Executive Director Facebook Page;

If I have ten thousand tongues, it would not be enough to say thank you Lord for your blessing on me. Inspite of the challenges & burden of COVID-19 pandemic, Our God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think according to the power that works in us.
To God be the glory, I & our Organization – Deaf Women Aloud Initiative(DWAI) for the first time alongside others were inaugurate by Hon. Minister of State, FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu as members of the FCT Emergency Maternal, New born, Child & Adolescent Health Plus Nutrition activities in FCT. This is testament of our advocating efforts and work on Inclusive Maternal and Health care with sign-language and this was made possible through our projects (Increasing Access to health services and information for Deaf Women with Sign-Language) sponsored by Voice and (Advocacy for inclusion of persons with disabilities in government health programs at the local level) by Disability Rights Fund – Nigeria Disability Rights Fund Disability Rights Fund – Women With Disabilities Taking the Lead. Our Special thanks to FCT Primary Health Care Board and FCT Health and Human Services.
For the first time, our glossary for sexual and reproductive health in Nigeria Sign-language also sponsored by VOICE, the first of its kind in Nigeria, and Africa which was launched recently and well attended & received by government and non-government organizations has continues to receive accolades both home and abroad. Infact, this has been our proud moment and due to popular demand, the glossary will be uploaded on our website and app soon for all to access. In addition, the Government has indicate interest to use our glossary as part of a curriculum in FCT School of Nursing to bridge the communication gap encountered between Deaf women and health workers which we are also looking forward to. Our goal is that women and girls have access to health services and information with sign language without barriers.
To this end, I have also been certified as Alumni of Disability, Sexuality, and Rights Online Institute (DSROI) 2020 and I am happy to gain more experience and to improve on my work as a Disability advocate for Deaf women and girls.
As we move closer to the end of 2020, I want to specifically thank every one of you here for your constant prayers, supports, and encouragement throughout the journey. This would not have been possible without God and you. In fact, I am grateful to God Almighty for everything. Please, let keep on making an impact and touching lives no matters how small.
