DWAI with support from Disability Rights Fund paid an advocacy visit to the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Candido.
The visit aims to improve access to health services for Deaf women and girls in four area councils including AMAC.
Moreover, it aims to ensure that the area councils and health service providers commit to the adoption of policies and directives to make health services and information accessible to and inclusive of Deaf women and girls.
The Chairman in response said “though his tenure will soon be over, he assured us that his administration would:
1. Construct a ramp to access the building housing the Chairman’s office as provided by the Disability Law.
2. Employ one or two Sign
Language Interpreters for the healthcare facilities in AMAC to accommodate Deaf persons.
Thanks to DRF for continuous support.
