Advocacy visit to the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS)

DWAI paid a courtesy visit to Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), we called the attention of the media persons to the inaccessibility of the broadcasting service to Deaf people in the state. In addition, we brought to their attention the plight of Deaf women which made us bring Deaf Inclusive Sexual Health (DISH) project and workshop for the benefit of women with disabilities in the Anambra state.

Our proposal for inclusive and right reporting of issues on Deaf women, and equal access to health care services was addressed by the Managing Director, Chido Obidiegwu who stated that it is his first time getting to know the plight of Deaf women and expressed shock at the level of inaccessibility of the healthcare services. Mr. Chido promised to partner with DWAI to create awareness to all stakeholders in the state government.

The idea to make available the service of sign language interpretation in broadcasting service was favorably treated. At DWAI we are committed to amplifying the voice of Deaf women through advocacy.

Thank you, ABS for having us and we look forward to working with you.

The project is supported by HIVOS.
