Introduction

Summary of DWAI

Deaf Women Aloud Initiative (DWAI) is an organization that is poised to amplify the voice of the deaf women in Africa whose voices have been drowned by the convention and status-quo.

DWAI will raise awareness among general populations about sensitive issues that affect deaf women and their children. Issues like sexual and reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), sexual abuse, gender based violence, injustices, stigmatization and discrimination.

DWAI exists to mitigate the exploitation of deaf women, eliminate discrimination, promote social inclusion and enhance secular participation of deaf women in Africa. It will also promote political participation of people with disabilities and rehabilitation of deaf women. DWAI will promote policy formulation and their implementation to enhance the lives of people with disabilities

Goals/ Objectives

*To mitigate the exploitation of deaf women, eliminate discrimination, promote social inclusion and enhance secular participation of deaf women in Nigeria and Africa.

*To promotes political participation and rehabilitation of Deaf women and youth

*To raise awareness among general populations about sensitive issues that affect deaf women. Issues like sexual and reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), sexual abuse, gender based violence, injustices, stigmatization and discrimination.

*To promote policy formulation and their implementation to enhance the lives of women with disabilities especially Deaf Women.
To amplify the voice of Deaf women and girls in the society


*To sensitize and build the capacity of Deaf women and young girls to access to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), maternity services and Gender Based Violence (GBV).

*To empower deaf women and young girls who are out of schools or jobless with entrepreneurship development and vocational skills training through collaboration so that they can earn some money and become self reliance.

* To empower and educate Deaf students especially girls on personal hygiene, menstruation and other factors particular to womanhood that are sometimes not taught.
To advocacy and empower Deaf Women with the right information on fundamental human rights and social responsibilities, especially as it’s related to CRPD.

*To collaborate or partner with local stakeholder, NGOs or CSOs to mainstreaming deaf women matters and sign-language communication into their services and program.
